Upcycling of electrode material in hydride batteries
This project aims to develop simple, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective methods for recycling electrode material in used NiMH batteries. Energy-intensive melting and remanufacturing methods, as well as complicated chemical-consuming hydrometallurgical methods used in conventional recycling materials from used NiMH batteries will be avoided. Reusing used electrode material from batteries is a key goal in the new EU battery regulation. With increased electrification of the EU zone, it is important to find efficient ways not only to recycle materials, but to reintroduce these materials into the battery industry. In this project, we want to develop technologies that enable a large-scale reuse of used material in new batteries, where reconditioned material is expected to provide better performance in the new batteries. The goal is to increase the value of the material that is reused in production.
