Safe and optimal handling to create circular flows of batteries from crashed cars
With an increasing number of electric vehicle batteries on the market, there is a growing need for increased circular flows of batteries from electric vehicles. It is especially important to ensure that batteries and their components are reused and recycled since batteries contain valuable and critical materials such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel which risk being in short supply in the near future. A major challenge for the industry concerns the safety of handling batteries from end-of-life vehicles. There is a need for a safe and efficient process- and information flow as well as test equipment and diagnostic tools that can evaluate different types of batteries. The aim of this demonstration-project is to establish new and expanded knowledge and solutions that contribute to an increased circular use of batteries. The results of the project will contribute to and accelerate a shift towards safe processes and efficient value chains better adapted to circular and sustainable systems.
