TexScale – Driving systemic change in textile recycling by scaling up

New laws and regulations on waste management, producer responsibility and sustainability reporting (CSRD) are emerging while the textile industry is grappling with inefficient resource use and high environmental impact. A systems approach is required for the industry to become more resource efficient and a crucial factor is the ability to scale up sustainable, circular innovations. The project is centred around the nonwoven technology and aims to contribute to a more resource-efficient material use of secondary textile raw materials by bridging the gap between pilot and industrial scale, optimising logistics from a sustainability perspective, and increasing the knowledge and ability of the industry to transition to a circular economy. Complex industrial textile waste streams and the increasing amount of post-consumer textiles are in focus. Through demonstration and technical validation, pilot and upscaling projects are carried out, while knowledge enhancement events are organised to address challenges and opportunities in textile recycling.
