Can I please have a BIF with that battery? An extended battery data passport, enabling improved reuse, refurbishment and recycling of light mobility batteries and beyond.

In this project, we aim to reduce and delay the volume of batteries that need to be recycled or sent to landfill. We achieve this by designing a battery data format (BIF) right from the start. With access to standardised data optimised to support predictive models in a digital twin, we reduce the risk of buying a used battery. The project brings together a strong constellation of actors from industry and academia who, with the help of large-scale data collection from Voi's fleet of electric scooters, can systematically optimise a BIF to reduce the total amount of data collected and at the same time predict the age of the battery with high accuracy. With access to the right data and models, we reduce uncertainty in the secondary market for batteries and battery materials, thus strengthening circular flows and marketplaces.
