Intelligent sorting system to optimal reuse of end-of-life-tyre materials
The project will develop and validate an intelligent sorting system for end-of-life tyres. Artificial intelligence, advanced visual technologies and sensors will be evaluated and integrated. The aim is to enable different types of tyre material to be recycled where its properties are best used for the benefit of society, climate and the environment. The system will need to sort based on tyre type, make, year of manufacture, wear and remaining tread depth, etc, with very high precision to separate the different compounds used. In phase two, we are establishing a demonstrator that can perform advanced sorting on an industrial scale with full documentation. The project is the first industrial project in the world focused on circular end-of-life tyres. The project will provide great value to recyclers worldwide and is the next phase of the flagship facility in Linköping established in 2023 for tyre shredding and granulation.
