DREVBONI – Novel technology for critical material recovery and contamination control in lithium battery gigafactories

Lithium-ion batteries are crucial to enable an electrified and fossil-free society. Battery cells are manufactured 24/7 non-stop in gigafactories with "clean rooms" and "dry rooms" under a strictly controlled environment to avoid contamination (material particles and moisture). Maintenance of these rooms results in huge production losses, wasted water and hazardous working environments. DREV is developing technology for pollution control and recycling of critical materials in battery manufacturing. The novelty lies in a patent-pending microparticle safety container and a highly efficient brush that can be integrated into many cleaning solutions and that collects and separates valuable airborne battery material microparticles without water or solvents. The PoC has been validated (TRL4), and this project will develop and test the first integrated DREVBONI prototype that enables all-in-one collection, separation and storage of battery material microparticles for further reuse (TRL 5).
