Demonstration of cost-effective climate reduction with reused building materials
The residential area Återbruket will demonstrate the possibility of cost-effective climate reduction through large-scale reuse in producing new rental apartments. Previous projects have shown that it is technically possible to use reused materials, and methods have been developed to ensure the quality of load-bearing building elements. However, experience from previous research and demonstration projects needs to be developed and the methods developed need to be streamlined to enable large-scale reuse that is also economically sustainable. It also needs to be combined with a production process that rationally handles logistics, storage, reconditioning and assembly of reused products. Without a cost-effective use of recycled materials in the construction sector, reuse risks becoming a niche solution for prestige projects, and the large-scale implementation that could substantially reduce climate impact will fail to materialise.
